Steps to Register

New CVA Students (Out-of-District/Home School) without a CSD Username and Password

Let’s be sure you are in the right place to begin the registration process. If you have do not have a Canyons School District or Canyons Virtual Academy username and password, you are in the right place. These steps are for students who do not have a Canyons School District or Canyons Virtual Academy username and password, and whose boundary school is outside the Canyon School District boundaries or is a home school student.

You can now move to Step #1.

If you have a Canyons School District username and password or a Canyons Virtual Academy username and password, STOP and click here to begin the registration process.

Step #1

All Out-of-District and Home School Students must create both a Canyons Virtual Academy registration account AND a SEATs registration account. Let's start by setting up your CVA registration account. Click here to create your Canyons Virtual Academy registration account.

Check the email account you entered on the form above for further details on your new registration account. This email should contain a temporary username and password that will allow you to register. The email should be sent within 24 hours of your submitting the form.

NOTES:

Step #4

Once logged into the your CVA Registration account, you should be on the Courses tab (located in the upper left corner). Search for the course you want to add in the dropdown. Be sure to check the quarter and the credit type are correct. Then click Add a Course.

NOTES:

The quarter refers to the content taught in the course not the calendar quarter you are currently in.
If you are not sure about the credit type, contact your counselor at your boundary school, or visit the Credit Options page for more information.
Be sure to meet with your boundary school counselor and parent/guardian BEFORE you register for your online course(s). Failure to do so may result in credit deficiency and delayed progress toward graduation.

Step #5

Now let's create your SEATs registration account with the State Online Education Program (SOEP). This is a required step to get approval for your CVA course enrollment(s).

Let's register with the State Online Education Program called SEATs at https://seats.schools.utah.gov. Complete the form to create an account. Make a note of your username and password.

Next make a request for the same classes you requested in Step #4 above. Be sure to select Canyons Virtual Academy as your provider. Seats requests are valid for the academic year.

NOTES:

Be SURE to register for the full amount of credit you will need in the SEATS system, which will avoid delays with future course requests. For example, if you need a full year of English, request all four quarters of English in SEATs.

Step #6

After adding your courses, check the email account you provided on the form in Step #1 for further instructions. There will be an email telling you how to access your courses.

When all of your course(s) have been approved, you will receive another email with your permanent CVA username and password as well as a CSDdocs email account. When you get this email, ALL correspondence from CVA and your teachers will go to your CSDdocs email account. Be SURE you WATCH for this email!

NOTES:

A parent/guardian of Grades 6-8 students will be required to sign a disclosure form prior to accessing courses.

Now that your CSD login is active, you can use the "Add a Course" Quicklink on the CVA home page to add your courses. Remember when you add more courses, you MUST add them on the SEATs website as well.
